As some of you may have noticed, we’ve been a little absent for the past…many…months. Luckily, it has not been due to death and disaster, but to growth, change, and well, yes, some minor annoyances, but mostly the growth and change stuff.
As you might imagine, the great struggle in running a business like ours is not in the concept. The reality of executing any sort of adventure involves a lot of logistics, and while almost all are extremely manageable there is one that constantly seems to stymie: other people. You see, while our amazing team handles the planning, recruiting, insurance, attendance, and instruction, from our inception, we have always relied on other people for our locations.
And those people have been amazing.
Our friends at Covered 6, Monkspace, XTC, the Forest Rangers, that jail that one time, and everywhere else, have all helped make our adventures fantastic, but in the end, they are all busy with their own things, as they deserve to be. Their constantly shifting schedules and commitments can make it hard for us to accomplish all that we want to, though. Anyone who’s had an adventure rescheduled…and rescheduled…and rescheduled knows the frustration that comes from really wanting something and not being able to get other people to make it work. Plus, the number of places that will let you smash zombie heads is surprisingly small.
With that in mind, we have been surreptitiously looking into opening up our own facility, and while it was supposed to stay on the dl until everything was figured out, I can’t shut up about it and, well, the cat got out of the bag.
We are planning on opening the first academy dedicated to the teaching and training of heroics in the modern world.
What does that mean? Well, for some of you, it may just mean more adventures on a more regular basis, in one location. Which is awesome on its own. For others, though, it will be the start of a whole new set of adventures, as we’ll be starting ongoing Hero Training for those wishing to be a little – or a lot – more awesome. Classes blending self defense, parkour, problem solving, weapons handling, escapology, climbing, rappelling, and more will be offered daily. We like to think of it as an adventure gym, Danger R00m, and B@tcave, all rolled into one big ball of fun.
So, if you’ve been wondering where the heck we have been for so long, it’s been researching, planning, fundraising, and eyeballing locations. And since I am, in this scenario, a relative novice at…all of those things, it has made it rather difficult to plan more adventures at the same time.
At this point, we’ve raised about half the money we’d like to move forward with and we’ve been looking at locations nonstop, (parking spaces, guys. Seriously. LA is insane. Look it up.) so hopefully we’ll be back and better than ever real soon. In the mean time, you can check out some info on our project in a handy pdf
So hey, if you own a giant warehouse, let us know.
